One of the most underrated and underrepresented genres in Christian fiction is middle grade, so when I learned that Becca Wierwille had a new middle-grade series coming out, I was all in. No, really. She happened to chat at just the right time for me to add her book and the Kickstarter campaign she's running into my current Bookstrings work in progress! Listen in to learn more about Becca, her book, Road Trip Rescue, and this Kickstarter campaign!

Becca Wierwille kicks off a new middle-grade series today--literally. No, really. She does. Her Road Trip Rescue novel releases in October, but her Kickstarter campaign starts today, and I've already put it and her book into chapter one of Clock Tower Bound--the next Bookstrings novel. EEEP! I'm so excited. And get this. Becca has actually been to Berne, Indiana... has had coffee at my character's (and daughters') favorite coffee shop, and knows where Berne'd Books is located. Fictionally speaking that is. What folks in my book know as Berne'd Books is really a Mennonite thrift store that Becca has actually been in! :D What could be cooler?
Look, folks who listen to this podcast know I'm a huge fan of middle-grade fiction. R.M. Ruiz' Chosen Kids Saga and Nicolas C. Day's Into the Great Marinara kind of prove that (and there have been more. I'm just blanking right now!) And chatting with Becca about her debut novel really explains why. Dealing with themes of faith, prayer, and not being alone (God always being with us), Road Trip Rescue also seems (from what I can see) to highlight friendship, loyalty, and waiting on the Lord. Can't wait to read it and see if I'm right.
If you've ever wondered why authors use Kickstarter campaigns for their books, Becca Wierwille does a fabulous job of explaining! As for me, I'm totally backing the campaign. I'm getting me a hardback (#becausehardbacks) as well as the ten-book bundle. Those books will go to The Next Page Bookstore in Decatur, Indiana and a couple to the Christian bookstore in Berne (I think Faith & Life Books & Gifts) since I'm appropriating the bookstore in that town. It'll be my apology. I'll also be having some cool book bundles as release prizes and those will include Road Trip Rescue.
To learn more about the Kickstarter, the best place to get a link that WILL work is to go to Becca's WEBSITE. (Scroll down a tiny bit to "click here to follow [her] Kickstarter Campaign." That'll take you right to it. :D
After spotting a photo of her lost dog, twelve-year-old Kimmy embarks on a wild road trip to bring him home with her pink-haired, adventure-hungry aunt who makes some unexpected detours.
Twelve-year-old Kimmy trusts dogs more than people. After all, her dog Bo never made fun of her for having one arm. Unlike her ex-best friend. But two years ago, Bo disappeared.
When Kimmy stumbles across a magazine photo of a dog in upstate New York that looks just like Bo, she must find him. When adventure-hungry Aunt Skylar agrees to a road trip with a stop in the Adirondacks, Kimmy jumps at the chance to bring her furry family member home.
But Aunt Skylar’s idea of a road trip isn’t the rescue mission Kimmy had in mind.
