Suzanne Woods Fisher is almost synonymous with rich characters, deep faith, and interesting situations, but now with the release of The Sweet Life, I suspect we might see ice cream added to that list. Having an ice cream "expert" who went to ice cream school living in her home doesn't hurt, but even if she didn't... a book about a polar opposite mother and daughter team running an ice cream shop on Cape Cod? WHAT? *Insert Patti Page's "Old Cape Cod" song here... no really... you can listen HERE.

Tropes in fiction (whether print or film) are a thing. One of the most popular ones is "opposites attract." Suzanne Woods Fisher has taken this and put it into a romantic women's fiction novel, The Sweet Life. But the opposites are a mother-daughter team who end up in another trope--fish out of water. Because one woman's impulsive purchase and another woman's refusal to let her mother fail. #BecauseMom, basically.
When Dawn finds herself taking her mother on what should have been her honeymoon, that's just the start of a life she had NOT planned. This Type-A, go-getter, get-the-checkboxes-checked kind of gal shouldn't be surprised that her free-spirited mother bought an ice cream shop on a whim. Right? But you have to give her credit for making sure Mom doesn't go belly up when the ice cream season ends and there's no more income!
This is the first book in the Cape Cod Creamery series, and I cannot wait to find out why Dawn is on this "honeymoon" alone when her ex-fiance isn't a bad guy.
Not only that, but what better book to read on a hot summer's day than a book about ice cream? My copy of A Sweet Life is here and I'm ready to dive in. Suzanne says her husband's "obsession" (my word, not hers) with ice cream inspired this book, but not in the way you'd think! So, you want to be sure to listen in to learn more about that and... about the next release coming soon!
Yep! Suzanne's next book after The Sweet Life is another Amish release, but you'll need to listen in (and come back) this fall to find out more about that one. If you want to check out previous interviews, maybe check out episodes 49 or 106.
Dawn Dixon can hardly believe she's on a groomless honeymoon on beautiful Cape Cod . . . with her mother. Sure, Marnie Dixon is good company, but Dawn was supposed to be here with Kevin, the love of her life (or so she thought).
Marnie Dixon needs some time away from the absolute realness of life as much as her jilted daughter does, and she's not about to let her only child suffer alone--even if Marnie herself had been doing precisely that for the past month.
Given the circumstances, maybe it was inevitable that Marnie would do something as rash as buy a run-down ice-cream shop in the town's tightly regulated historic district. After all, everything's better with ice cream.
Her exasperated daughter knows that she's the one who will have to clean up this mess. Even when her mother's impulsive real estate purchase brings Kevin back into her life, Dawn doesn't get her hopes up. Everyone knows that broken romances stay broken . . . don't they?
Welcome to a summer of sweet surprises on Cape Cod--a place where dreams just might come true.
